I’ve been contemplating having a thankful spirit this autumn
season. It’s not that I’m not thankful to God for all that He has given me, but
many times I just don’t purpose to take the time to notice the little blessings
that He brings. As I was reflecting over the little blessings I’ve had over the
past few weeks, two of them came to mind that I would like to share with you.
I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant, and although cravings
haven’t been horrible, I still get a hankering for something specific now and then.
One of the things that I’ve had a little craving for is English muffins,
especially cinnamon raisin or anything with cinnamon spice incorporated into
the flavor. I just dismissed this, as I didn’t need them and I didn’t want to
spend an extra dollar or two on them. And that was that. I pushed fulfilling
that little longing for an English muffin with cinnamon out of my mind. That is
until this past Wednesday evening at church.
A brother had the back of his van full of bread that he was giving away.
Not only was he giving away free bread, but he was parked right next to us. And
what was among all that free bread? You guessed it- cinnamon raisin and pumpkin
spice English muffins! I said a little thank you prayer to God right there in
the church parking lot for provision not just for my needs, but my silly little
wants as well!
Now about the shoes… I’ve wanted a pair of brown leather
Sperry shoes since I was a freshman or sophomore in college. That’s 10-11
years! This was definitely a want and not a need, therefore I could not justify
spending what Sperry’s cost just for a silly want. I have almost purchased
knock-off Sperry shoes, but just didn’t like the way they looked or fit. A few
weeks ago, I threw away my brown casual shoes, because they no longer fit my
post baby foot and they were falling apart (I had owned them since freshman
year in college). I mentally made note that I should look for a pair to replace
them. The very next day, a sweet friend from church posted a picture of brown
leather Sperry shoes that were exactly the right size! She was decluttering,
and decided to post some things to sell on Facebook. The best part is that they
looked almost new, and she was only asking $10. Another prayer of thankfulness
to my amazing God! He had not only provided for my need of brown shoes, but
also provided one of the nicest most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned or
wanted!
This Thanksgiving season and beyond, let’s not forget to
notice the little blessings that God sends our way. Let’s thank Him for His daily
provision for our needs, and for even providing for our silly little wants just
because He loves us.
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts
with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4
